For Italian banks, the "heavenly" tax burden equals 17.1% of the ratio of taxes paid to profit. In fact, credit institutions will pay only 4 billion and 300 million euros into state coffers in 2022, compared to 88.1 billion in "turnover," with 45.5 billion linked to loans (interest margin) and 25.4 billion in profit. In the last five years, the banking sector has paid the tax authorities a total of 14.4 billion, or 19.3% of its profit, for a total of 74.9 billion. According to a study by the Unimpresa Study Center, our country's banks paid 2.8 billion in taxes on average from 2018 to 2022, against 82.7 billion in turnover and 14.9 billion in profit.
