Tragedy in Cortina, where a 38-year-old Australian base jumper died after a jump from the Tofane. The man ended up in the Canalino del Prete with his own parachute, 200 meters lower than where he had jumped, and from where two other compatriots, who got stuck after his accident, were supposed to follow him. They were the ones who raised the alarm. After the crash, the 118 helicopter flew to the scene from Pieve di Cadore (in the province of Belluno), but it could not get closer because of the presence of electric cables. The vehicle then transported two rescuers from the Guardia di Finanza to the vicinity to reach the body, while two other technicians from Cortina Mountain Rescue, in support of operations and inspections, were brought to the altitude. Recomposed, the body was moved to a safer spot for recovery, which was completed by helicopter, and transported to the Cortina lay-by to be entrusted to the hearse.
