From spring 2024 visiting Venice will cost five euros. This was decided by the city council. In addition to the entrance ticket, reservations will also be mandatory. Days characterized by major events, such as the Redentore, the Regata Storica and New Year's Eve, seem to be excluded, while they are still considering whether to include the ticket even for the busiest days of the Carnival, starting in 2025. After all, it was mass tourism that pushed the local council in the direction of the access fee, to be added to compulsory reservations and, at a later date, perhaps a closed number. Of course, not everyone will be required to pay the fee. Those who reside and work in the municipality will be exempt. Nor will residents of the Veneto region have to pay, but they will have to book access to the city. And then children under the age of 14, tourists staying in the city's hotels, those who have come to Venice to receive health care, participants in sports competitions, and law enforcement officers will not have to pay.
