It was August 9, 1993, when at Fatebenefratelli Hospital on Isola Tiberina, Elena Fabrizi, known to everyone as Sora Lella, died, leaving in everyone the memory of a good, gruff and joyful Roman spirit. Right on Isola Tiberina, Elena Fabrizi, Aldo's younger sister, was in charge of the kitchen of the restaurant her husband had opened years earlier, and which is still carried on today with care and love by her grandchildren. Elena, born in Rome in 1915, lived with her children and husband, Renato Trabalza, who worked at the city slaughterhouse located in Testaccio. With the innards she brought home from time to time, she indulged in tasty delicacies. Her cooking, veracious, populous, full of flavor and grandmotherly sweetness, became famous, and her recipes flooded books and even a cookery course in booklets that many families jealously guarded in their kitchens. But Sora Lella was not only a superb cook; she was also an appreciated actress. Elena Fabrizi had worked with Mario Monicelli, in "Big Deal on Madonna Street" and with Ettore Scola in "We all loved each other so much". It was Carlo Verdone, however, who made her a symbol of popular Romanity.
