Here is the decree issued by the Meloni government to put an end to juvenile crime, as promised by the premier during his visit to Caivano, a municipality in the Naples metropolitan area that has seen repeated violence against two 12-year-old cousins. The text focuses on crimes committed by children aged 14 and up, and harsher penalties for drug dealing and violence against public officials are introduced. The measures were approved yesterday during the Council of Ministers meeting at Palazzo Chigi. The main proposals include arresting children 14 and older who are caught in the act of selling drugs or being violent toward public officials; warning of the Questore from the age of 12 for crimes that could lead to up to 5 years in prison and fines of up to 5,000 euros for the parents of children who are warned. And then there's urban Daspo for fights, violence, and threats, even when no one is offended. The government also intends to implement a stricter reintegration and re-education program for convicted minors, which will include socially useful work, collaboration with non-profit organizations, or community-benefiting activities lasting one to six months. Furthermore, parents who do not allow their children to attend school may face up to two years in prison.
