The miracle of San Gennaro has occurred again. The announcement of the liquefaction of the blood was given today at 10.03am, greeted by long applause from the many believers who had gathered in the Cathedral of Naples since the early hours of the morning to take part in the celebration officiated by Archbishop Domenico Battaglia. "This blood is not an oracle to be consulted and even less a city horoscope whose function is to predict misfortunes or fortunes - said the Archbishop - I believe that the real miracle will take place the day in which this blood will be always hard, compact, coagulated. Yes, I believe that the real miracle will happen when justice meets peace, when good will overcome evil forever, when the good news of Jesus Christ will dry up the pain of the world". The miracle of the liquefaction of the blood of San Gennaro, Bishop of Benevento, occurs three times a year: on 19 September, the date on which the martyr was beheaded in 305 AD; on 16 December, on the anniversary of a terrible eruption of Vesuvius in 1631 arrested, according to popular belief, through the intercession of the Saint; and on the first Sunday of May, in memory of the transfer of the mortal remains from Pozzuoli to the catacombs of Capodimonte.
