On Tuesday night Lazio drew the first match of its Champions League group against Atletico Madrid thanks to a header goal in the recovery minutes by its goalkeeper, Ivan Provedel. It was practically the last action of the match, Lazio was trailing 1-0 and Provedel left his goal poast, his penalty area and his half of the field to go on the attack at a corner kick. Images of his beautiful goal made the rounds. Prior to Provedel, there were only three goalkeepers who had scored in Europe's top competition: the only previous one in open play was by Turkey's Sinan Bolat, with Belgian side Standard Liege, while the other two goalkeepers were specialists in penalty kicks, a category that deserves a different matter. In Serie A, the last case of a goalkeeper's goal on action was in 2017: it was Benevento's Alberto Brignoli against AC Milan, scoring in the added minutes for the equalizer (2-2) that was also worth his team's first point in that league after 15 games. Ivan Provedel is 29 years old. He is Italian-Russian and played with smaller teams before coming to Lazio.
