Christian Greco, the director of the Egyptian Museum in Turin, has had a busy phone since last Tuesday: Lega and Fratelli d'Italia, represented by deputy secretary Andrea Crippa (therefore Matteo Salvini's number two) and Piedmont Region Welfare Councilor Maurizio Marrone, are at odds over the decision to grant free tickets to Arab couples. They believe the ruling is discriminatory and would like to see it reversed. Greco was supported by the Museum's Board of Directors and Scientific Committee, as well as local organizations and different national politicians (including Carlo Calenda of Azione and Elly Schlein of the Democratic Party). But it isn't all. In addition, 92 scholars signed an open letter in support of it. Marrone had criticized Greco already in 2018, denouncing the initiative of free tickets for Arab couples, which was also rejected by Giorgia Meloni. For the time being, Minister of Culture Sangiuliano has chosen not to comment, however it should be noted that the Egyptian Museum is run by a private organization and is thus not a governmental museum.
