"Raffa in the Sky," a new opera inspired by Raffaella Carrà and dedicated to Italian society from the postwar period to today, will be staged at the Teatro Donizetti in Bergamo on Friday, September 29th, Sunday, October 1st, Friday, October 6th, and Sunday, October 8th. The music is by Lamberto Curtoni, the libretto is by Renata Ciaravino and Alberto Mattioli, and the show is directed by Francesco Micheli. The opera was commissioned and created by the Fondazione Teatro Donizetti for Bergamo Brescia Italian Capital of Culture 2023, and it is the first time that a capital city incorporates a new opera in its program, in the area that invented this genre, which has become a global emblem of Italy. "Raffa in the Sky" is a genuine opera inspired by Raffaella Carrà, a renowned protagonist of Italian television as well as an international celebrity. It is neither a musical nor a musical biography, but rather the story of an artistic career that has accompanied and, at times, stimulated the changes in Italian society over the past half century. Through iconic moments of Carrà's television programming, the work aims to reflect on the role of the artist in society, on the value and use of art, on the role of television and other media, without forgetting the songs that Raffaella performed, in a story that travels the road of the surreal and the fantastic in order to speak to all of us.
