"He would always write to us, call us when he saw cartoons on television that he thought we would like. He would pick us up from school and take us to Villa Borghese for ice cream. He always made time for Simone and me, despite his busy schedule". Giving back a more human and tender side of Giorgio Napolitano, in a Montecitorio hall more solemn than ever for the secular and State funeral of the President Emeritus, is his granddaughter Sofia May Napolitano. The procession with the coffin, which left from Palazzo Madama, arrived at the Chamber a quarter of an hour before noon (yesterday), welcomed in Montecitorio Square by the 88-year-old widow Clio Bittoni, while the notes of Mameli's anthem were resounding. The coffin was then led to the Hall of Ministers, where it will remain - watched over by the cuirassiers - for the entire time of the ceremony, and where it will receive the homage of Italian and foreign authorities: from Head of State Sergio Mattarella to the Presidents of the Chambers, from Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni to the President of the Council Silvana Sciarra, from French President Emmanuel Macron to German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, and even former transalpine President Francois Hollande.
