Happy ending to the rescue operation carried out yesterday by the Lazio National Alpine and Speleological Rescue Corps for the search and recovery of a 69-year-old American hiker who had gone missing near Sermoneta in the province of Latina. The man was travelling along the Via Francigena path when he got lost and was unable to continue due to a lack of water and food supplies. The searches were carried out in close conjunction with the Guardia di Finanza's Alpine Rescue, the Fire Brigade, the Carabinieri, the Air Force, the Local Police, and the Sermoneta Civil Protection. The intervention was initiated in response to the man's emergency call, and, from the outset, a massive rescue apparatus comprised of over 40 CNSAS Lazio operators, including doctors and canine units specializing in search and rescue, combed the territory for over 24 hours in search of the missing. The hiker was eventually identified by a ground crew, and after being stabilized, he was transported aboard the Lazio Region's air ambulance. His hygiene is excellent.
