Italo's high-speed trains become part of Gianluigi Aponte's MSC empire. MSC acquires a 50% stake in Nuovo Trasporto Viaggiatori. The global leader in logistics, shipping, and voyages has signed a binding agreement to acquire 50% of the railway group from the U.S. fund GIP, which remains on the scene. The Americans retain a stake of approximately 35%, along with Allianz's 11.5%, Luca Cordero di Montezemolo, Alberto Bombassei, and Isabella Seragnoli's 0.6% each. Peninsula Capital, Giovanni Punzo, and Flavio Cattaneo have left the company. Italo will be administered jointly by MSC and the other business owners, while Montezemolo will continue to serve as president and Gianbattista La Rocca as chief executive officer. Italo's aggregate valuation exceeds €4 billion, including €900 million in debt. In 2018, Gip purchased it for $1,98 billion. This is how the first intermodal organization in Europe was formed, offering an integrated railway, ship, and bus mobility service. Italo-NTV was founded in 2006 with the intention of competing on high speed with the Frecciarossa of FS. On April 28, 2012, the Naples-Milan section of the railway opened to the public. In 2022, the corporation generated more than $700 million in revenue. MSC has added Italo to its collection of cargo shipping companies, cruise ships, ferry companies, port terminals, shipping agencies, tourism agencies, tour operators, railway companies, technological and cybersecurity poles, and logistics firms. With operational headquarters in Geneva and 675 offices in 155 countries, this huge corporation employs 180 thousand individuals.
