It has been a difficult and pitiful task in hospital morgues for doctors and investigators to name all 21 victims of the Mestre disaster. Eight victims were identified with certainty by authorities because they had their identity documents with them: they were Ukrainian nationals Liubov Shyshkarova, Iryna Pashenko, 30-year-old Yuliia Niemova, 70-year-old Vasil Lomakyn, and 65-year-old Tetiana Beskorainova. Identified was also a 28-year-old German named Siddarta Jonathan Grasse and the 24-year-old Croatian Antonela Perkovicc from Split, who was on her honeymoon with her new husband. Certain is finally the identity of the driver of the vehicle Alberto Rizzuto, 40, who was driving the tourist vehicle that crashed going up in flames from the Rizzardi overpass, making 21 victims and 15 injured of whom 11 are still hospitalized in intensive care.
