A decree on offshore wind is on the way. This was announced yesterday by the Minister of the Environment and Energy Security, Gilberto Pichetto Fratin, in a video message delivered to the Italian Renewable Energy Investment Forum, where the minister highlighted the crucial importance of this new initiative in the Italian and European energy landscape. "I will soon present the measure on offshore wind, a great opportunity for our country with so much sea," the minister said. The measure will focus on the identification of vast dedicated areas in the sea, which will allow for the engagement of large groups in the offshore wind sector, while allowing for large energy production without significant impacts on the surrounding landscape. For Pichetto Fratin, "the transition is not only a goal of the European Union: it is a duty to the younger ones", but it is also "a big opportunity for the economy, indeed it will be the engine of the economy of the future. Green economy and sustainability strengthen competitiveness and the ability of companies to respond to crises. The green ones are more solid and future-proof companies innovate and export more. In the Italian system we have experience, professionalism, talent, in large quantities in this sector". The minister recalled how Italy aims to become an energy hub to Northern Europe, "not only for gas but also for renewable electricity and green hydrogen. In the past we have accrued delays, but we are catching up and looking for sustainable solutions from the ecological point of view but also from the economic and especially from the social point of view". Finally, an important passage on electric mobility: in the National Integrated Energy and Climate Plan "there is also electric mobility, which we do not consider, however, the only way to take carbon out of transport. But electric will still be the protagonist in the coming years, so we will continue with the installation of charging stations in a rapid but still reasoned way". The announcement of the decree is an important step toward promoting renewable energy sources and reducing greenhouse gas emissions: offshore wind, in particular, offers an opportunity to harness wind energy from the sea, making the most of the country's natural resources. Indeed, Italy, with its vast coastline, is well positioned to take advantage of this clean and sustainable energy source.
