Italy and Turkey have been awarded the shared hosting of the 2032 European Football Championships. Initially, the two national federations had applied separately, but last July they agreed to submit a joint bid. Given the absence of other bids, the UEFA Executive Committee meeting in Switzerland on Tuesday had only to evaluate their proposal and officially choose them as organizers of the 19th edition of the tournament. In the preliminary bid, Italy had indicated ten possible host cities: Milan, with the existing Giuseppe Meazza stadium; Turin, with the Allianz Stadium; Verona, Genoa, Florence and Bologna, with their existing and renovated facilities; Rome, with the Olympic Stadium; Naples, with the further renovated Maradona stadium; Bari, with the renovated San Nicola stadium; and Cagliari, with the Unipol Domus, whose work has not yet begun. Of these ten cities indicated, only five will actually host the tournament, in all likelihood Milan, Turin, Florence, Rome and Naples. Turkey, on the other hand, had indicated eight cities and ten stadiums, three of them in Istanbul and the others in Ankara, Bursa, Konya, Trabzon, Antalya, Eskisehir and Gaziantep. Compared to Italy, the Turkish facilities are all ready and newly built.
