There are more than 317,000 pensions that Italy pays abroad. Altogether, they represent 2.3 percent of the total pensions disbursed by the Inps and are distributed over about 160 countries. With reference to the five-year trend - information from an Inps note - there is a decrease of more than 6 percent, mainly due to the reduction of pension payments in continental areas of "ancient migration", such as North and South America and Oceania. In other areas, however, the trend is steadily upward. From a trend point of view, the interesting figures are the increase in the number of pension payments in Europe (+4.3%), and the strong growth in those paid in Central America, Asia and Africa (+38.9%, +34.9% and +30.3%, respectively).
