The Mont-Blanc Tunnel closed yesterday for two months. The announced stop will last until December 18 to allow the execution of some work that cannot be postponed but which, combined with the stop of the railroad passing through Frejus due to the landslide in France, could impact the Turin bypass by increasing up to 1,800 the number of extra trucks in transit every day on the route. This is also why in recent days, after a summit in the Prefecture, it was decided to stop all construction sites in the Susa Valley, on the Turin-Bardonecchia and on the ring road until 2024. In the event of partial or total closure of the A32, the two state roads in the Susa Valley will be used as alternative routes. The closure will also have such repercussions on the territory that truckers are immediately calling for the opening of the second Frejus tube. It remains to be seen whether these extraordinary measures to manage the emergency will impact the territory. According to Confindustria Valle d'Aosta estimates, the three-month closure of the Bianco would be equivalent to a 0.3 percent drop in the Northwest's GDP.
