The ruling, which is historic in nature, simplifies and streamlines a lengthy and arduous process: a married couple will have the opportunity to initiate the divorce procedure in a "streamlined," "easy," and "single solution" fashion. In fact, the Court of Cassation has made fully operative the reform sought by former Minister of Justice Marta Cartabia, which has been in effect since last February. As a result, it will no longer be necessary to open two separate proceedings, lawyers will no longer charge double fees, and there will be no need for the double "unified contribution," a tax that the State requires to carry out certain judicial acts in civil and administrative matters, such as a divorce.
