By assuming the guise of a merchant and organist for Pope Ratzinger, he successfully acquired 5 million euros from a Salerno-based 82-year-old woman whom he was romantically involved with. The elderly woman had been tricked by the impostor, a 51-year-old Roman, who had presented her with costly gifts and compliments. "He gave me gifts, he gave me chocolates," she told the judge in court. The money was allegedly paid into two fake funds before being deposited to the man's bank account. Customers were really offered non-existent investments, with the money being used for personal purposes.
