In 2022, the average monthly consumption expenditure of households in current values was €2,625 (€2,415 in 2021*; +8.7%), although growth in real terms was nearly zero due to inflation (+8.7% year-on-year change in the Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices). This was emphasized by Istat yesterday. In real terms, equivalent expenditure declined by 2.5% for the poorest households while increasing by 1.8% for the wealthiest households. Territorial disparities remain significant: 782 euros separate the maximum expenditure in the North-West from the minimum in the South, compared to 748 euros in 2021. Differences in expenditure levels between households formed entirely of Italians and those composed entirely of foreigners continue to widen (952 euros more, 850 in 2021).
