Animal welfare is mentioned on the label, however Italians and Europeans disregard it when purchasing items derived from farming techniques. This is according to a recent Eurobarometer survey on animal welfare. The survey contains a specific question. "A special label identifies products from animal welfare farming systems. Do you look for these labels when you go grocery shopping?" Only 27% of Italians and 28% of Europeans say "Yes, the majority of the time." Then there is a sizeable proportion of individuals who consult information on animal welfare "occasionally" (32% in the EU, 40% in Italy), as evidence of their still-unestablished habits, interests, and uses.
