Bologna is concerned about its Garisenda, the lower and leaning of the two towers that are a symbol of the city. Built in the early 1100s, its four-degree inclination makes it the most leaning in Italy, despite the fact that the most famous one is in Pisa. For several days, the area underneath the historic monument has been barricaded in order to proceed with some monitoring: under observation are some twisting movements and "strange" vibrations, when a strong wind blows. "We are ready to do everything necessary to ensure the safety of citizens and the Tower," says the city's Mayor Matteo Lepore. In an interview, Culture Undersecretary Lucia Borgonzoni had announced an allocation of 5 million euros, accusing the city's scientific committee of having "underestimated the situation".
