With the revision of the European system of designations of origin, Italy's primacy in the European Union is safeguarded, with 885 recognized items, including food and wine, with a value of about 20 billion euros developed with the help of over 86 thousand operators. The reform of Geographical Indications in the EU has finally been accepted after two years of negotiations. The reform streamlines and protects the optimization of processes, grants producer consortia increased authority, specifically in the realm of online commerce, and forbids the utilization of generic terms that imitate the geographical indications of other Member States, such as the now-famous "Prosek."
