Vittorio Sgarbi in the storm. The undersecretary for Culture is under investigation in Rome for fraudulent evasion of tax payments. He allegedly failed to pay debts amounting to 715,000 euros. Sgarbi rejects the accusations and threatens a lawsuit to the newspaper Fatto Quotidiano - which previewed the story - claiming that he has a letter from the National Anti-Corruption Authority (ANAC) justifying his "dissemination activities". Specifically, it mentions 300 thousand euros collected in 2023 for consultations, presentations and exhibitions. According to the undersecretary, the ANAC said that "there is no incompatibility. These are inferences that stem from the complaints of one of my collaborators with anonymous letters. But they are unfounded. In any case, I do take nothing from the ministry for missions". Meanwhile, Minister Gennaro Sangiuliano "unloads" him with an interview (which Sgarbi called false): "I knew nothing about the consultancies. I already warned Meloni. I didn’t want it anyway. I'm trying to keep him at a distance and make up for his troubles". Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni will reportedly look into the matter as soon as she is able, and then make her assessments. At the moment there would be no drastic decisions in sight. (Photo by Niccolò Caranti)
