Amina Milo Kalelkyzy, 18, who has always lived in Lequile, Salento, has been in jail in Astana, Kazakhstan, since last July 11 on charges of international drug trafficking. This is reported by the Quotidiano di Puglia paper, which reports on the appeal made by her mother Assemgul Sapenova, a naturalized Italian citizen. The young woman would face 10 to 15 years in prison. According to the local newspaper's reconstruction, the young woman had gone to Kazakhstan, her family's homeland, to visit relatives. There, during an outing with some recently met peers, she was allegedly taken by police on July 2 and segregated in an apartment for 16 days. Her mother received a phone call demanding ransom to free her. At that point the woman turned to Italian authorities who, through the embassy, worked to free her. Once free, the 18-year-old allegedly had signs of violence and abuse on her body (she probably was tied to a chair and beaten). At the denunciation stage comes the hoax: the 18-year-old, who does not know Kazakhstan, signed documents that would lead to charges of drug trafficking. The young woman is still in jail and, according to the newspaper's reconstruction, she allegedly tried to take her own life twice. Assisted by a lawyer and the embassy, the case would now be brought to the attention of Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani.
