The boom of padel, the younger sibling of tennis, continues in Italy. The steady growth of the sport has reached remarkable numbers, so much so that the total turnover in 2023 could break through the billion-euro wall for the first time. As of last September, compared to the end of 2022, there has been a growth in the number of facilities dedicated to padel (sports clubs, clubs, etc.) by 16 percent, from 2,792 to 3,250. As for the number of courts, the increase was 20 percent, as they rose from 7,128 to 8,520 in less than a year. And estimates continue to be optimistic that by the end of 2023, from North to South, there will be 9,000. Currently, there are 1,489 Italian municipalities with at least one facility for playing padel. Regionally, Lazio is confirmed as the leader, followed by Lombardy and Sicily. Padel enthusiasts in the Peninsula are traveling toward 1.5 million (according to the Deloitte Analysis Monitor considering those who play less frequently), twice as many as three years ago. New for 2023 is an increase in indoor courts so that they can be played in all seasons. Sixty percent of revenue comes from field rental. The rest comes from racquet production and sales, and increasingly specialized apparel.
