In September, the number of people working in Italy exceeds 23 million 656 thousand, the highest total since 1977. As a result, the employment rate has risen to 61.7%. The new Istat numbers on employment in Italy for the month of September are encouraging, as it is primarily permanent employees (+2.9% year on year) and self-employed (+2.3%) who are seeing an increase after a significant fall during the epidemic years. Temporary workers, on the other hand, dropped (-1.6%). Even those who are inactive, that is, those who do not work and do not seek job, fall by 92 thousand in a month and 459 thousand in a year, even though the percentage of inactivity remains high: 33.2%. However, as a result, the jobless rate climbs to 7.4%. Young people's unemployment is high, at 21.9%, compared to the Eurozone average of 14%.
