Average annual costs for an off-campus student now exceed 17 thousand euros and have been steadily rising for years. This is what emerges from the report edited by the Union of University Students and Federconsumatori, on the issue of expensive university studies. A report presented yesterday at the Chamber of Deputies, just as the parliamentary passage of the budget law is approaching. "Minister Bernini has told us that she is available to meet with us to discuss amendments to the budget law: we hope that these are not words in the wind but concrete facts, and we hope to be able to meet with her to discuss the issues we have been dissecting," says Camilla Piredda, National Coordinator of the Union of University Students, who adds: "What is emerging is an overall picture of the fact that today studying in Italy is the prerogative of the very few who can afford it: a cost of 17 thousand euros a year for an out-of-towner is unsustainable, and only two years ago we were estimating a figure around 12 thousand euros. This is a full-bodied increase that needs structural investment to guarantee everyone the right to study, which is a constitutional right".
