The flight from work that began during the lockdown did not end with the pandemic, but continues and grows stronger. In 2022 in Lombardy alone, 566,000 employees resigned, about 12 percent of the employed. This is a huge figure, seemingly abnormal, but perhaps reflecting a new normal. The Lombardy figure prompted the CISL union to seek an explanation by interviewing several thousand resigning workers. According to the research, the main reasons for workers leaving their jobs were found to be, in order, excessive stress, a tense company climate, and unsatisfactory professional relations with colleagues and superiors. For a quarter of respondents, it had become impossible to reconcile their private and work lives. For the youngest, the latter was the decisive reason. The conclusion is that work is no longer at the center of the value system that governs people's lives.
