"The demographic challenge affects and requires everyone. It is a battle for Italy's future, a challenge for freedom, especially for women. Because, unfortunately, there are still too many women who are forced to resign from their jobs after becoming mothers; there are still too many working mothers who see their career path hampered by a system that does not value what they do; and there are still too many women who give up on having a child because they see it as an alternative to professional fulfillment. And it is something we will not tolerate." This is what Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni declared in a video message addressed to the campaign "Motherhood is (not) a Business" yesterday. "Therefore," the prime minister continued, "we must all work together with strength and determination to achieve the goal of creating a culture and work organization that does not regard parenthood as a punishment, but rather accompanies and enhances the experience of becoming a father or mother. The government has also begun to take steps in this direction, from expanding parental leave to lowering contributions for working women, but I am confident that collectively, all of us, we can make a much greater difference."
