The year 2023 was the year of Generative AI in data analytics, as well as the implementation of the Data Governance Act. The expenditure of Italian companies on infrastructure, software, and services for data management and analysis increased by +18% to 2.85 billion euros, with large corporations accounting for 83% of the total and micro-enterprises and SMEs accounting for 17%. These are some of the findings of a study conducted by the Big Data & Business Analytics Observatory of the Politecnico di Milano's School of Management, which show that the Cloud component (27% of the market) is driving growth in the manufacturing, telco, and media sectors. Large-scale distribution/retail, as well as public administration and healthcare, grew in line with the market average. In terms of data management and analysis spending in relation to the ICT budget, the banking sector ranks first.
