An ambitious telemedicine program that connects 49 health centers, many in remote places in Africa, with over 200 Italian volunteer doctors. A true network of solidarity that has guaranteed more than 50,000 teleconsultations, through diagnostic and therapeutic suggestions, which have saved the lives of many people. The idea came from Dr. Michelangelo Bartolo, 50, head of the Telemedicine Center at the San Giovanni-Addolorata Hospital in Rome and since March 2022 director of telemedicine services of the Lazio Region. The platform is part of the Community of Sant'Egidio's "Dream" program for the treatment of hiv and the many acute and chronic diseases that affect many poor or developing countries. It makes use of an international pool of specialists who give their advice free of charge. It is a new way of doing high-impact, low-cost cooperation. In addition to bridging with Africa through telemedicine, another initiative will be implemented soon: a tele-schooling service to offer knowledge tools at a distance.
