Italian female workers in the private sector earned an average of almost 8 thousand euros less than their male colleagues in 2022. To be precise, 7,922 euros: 18,305 euros was the average gross annual salary for women compared to 26,227 euros for men. The total average (men and women) was 22,839 euros gross, about 1,903 euros per month. And the paycheck "increases as age increases, at least up to the 55-59 age group", reads the Observatory on Private Sector Public Employees released by Inps. Differences are also marked by geographic area. In the North, the average gross pay was 26,933 euros while in the South it was 16,959 euros, or ten thousand euros less. The increase in employment is confirmed. In 2022, there were 16,978,425 employees in the private sector (excluding agricultural and domestic workers) with at least one paid day in the year (+4.3 percent compared to the year 2021). With respect to gender, male workers accounted for 57.2% of the total.
