The bookstore of The Human Safety Net is the first one to open in St. Mark's Square in Venice in more than a century. The bookstore is located in the Procuratie Vecchie, a stone's throw from an icon of the square: Carlo Scarpa's Olivetti store. It is only 13 square meters: a small space for a big project. Entrusted to the care and title search of the Toletta bookstore (for 90 years the city's landmark in the field), the store is a street-facing overlook for The Human Safety Net Foundation, the movement of people helping people and which, under the tutelage of Assicurazioni Generali, is a key hub for understanding the Venice to come. The interiors are by the Migliore+Servetto studio (which also signs the entire interior of the Foundation, while architecture is designed by Chipperfield), while the selection of titles focuses on the Foundation's themes. Moreover, there is a targeted offering of design and craft objects made by social cooperatives and refugee start-ups supported by The Human Safety Net. The bookstore also sells tickets to the interactive exhibition "A World of Potential", which is based in the Procuratie Vecchie on the third floor.
