The lion that escaped from a circus that was stopping in Ladispoli, a seaside resort in the province of Rome, has been captured. The animal had escaped from the enclosure of the circus waiting in the town, then wandered through the streets, filmed by frightened citizens, some armed with rifles. The mayor, who had alerted the population through social media, then used the same medium to announce the capture: "The animal was immediately tracked down within the adjacent waterway," reads the first citizen's Facebook profile, "The circus personnel set in motion the capture operations, with the support of the Police Force, which promptly intervened on the spot. Around 10 p.m. yesterday, the feline was in fact hit by a syringe with sedatives thrown by a law enforcement sniper.
