"Italy is ready to do its part. I believe that the humanitarian aid brought a few days ago is entering the Gaza Strip in these hours through the Rafa crossing". Thus spoke Antonio Tajani, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, at a Senate hearing on the conflict in Israel and the main issues on the European and international agenda. "Italy," Tajani continued yesterday, "has sent from Brindisi two Air Force C-130s with a cargo of 16 tons of humanitarian goods from Italian cooperation. We must make sure that all aid sent to the strip is directed exclusively to civilians in need and that Hamas terrorists do not benefit even indirectly. In response to a request from Israel, the Defense Ministry has provided a hospital ship with emergency surgical capabilities. This ship is Vulcan, a state-of-the-art medical logistics center en route to the area. It is also planned to set up a field hospital for the installation of which the agreement of the different parties must be found. In Paris, I also reiterated the willingness to receive Palestinian minors in Italy who need urgent medical care, this in conjunction with the United Arab Emirates. We are considering further forms of intervention and the financing of new humanitarian activities".
