"We were told for years that one was worth one and that competence was irrelevant. Devastating suggestions, the consequences of which we are now paying. We chose to end that season and focus our efforts on reactivating the only social elevator we have: merit. The state must ensure that everyone has equal possibilities in the outset, but it is up to the person to demonstrate his worth. That is, it is up to each of us to pick where we want to go. This is what we call the "merit revolution," a movement for which we have built the groundwork in our first year in government and which will act as our guidepost, beginning with schools and investment in skills. Due to the fact that human capital is our most valuable asset, it enables us to maintain a competitive edge on the global stage and distinguishes Made in Italy as an italian exellence. This is also why we have decided to address the issue of skills mismatch particularly and to engage in targeted active labor market policies as well as training that is up to date and tailored to the needs of the labor market." These are the comments of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni in a video message broadcast yesterday to the Federmanager assembly, the Italian management industry's official organization.
