A half-hour prior to the Motul Grand Prix of the Valencian Community, Francesco Bagnaia had secured the world championship by fending off Fabio Di Giannantonio's efforts on the final lap. The only rider in the race for the championship who could cause concern for the Ducati Lenovo Team rider was Jorge Martin of Prima Pramac Racing. Martin had fallen into the gravel on the sixth of the 27 laps scheduled for the final act of 2023 while attempting to recover from an off-track incident that had brought him within striking distance of the number one finisher on lap three. From the top step of the podium, the Italian celebrated his second straight world title in the premier class, leading a race in which the top three under the chequered flag were collected in less than four tenths.
