More than a third of the money spent by Italians and foreigners on vacation in Italy goes to restaurants, pizzerias, trattorias, or farmhouses, but also to street food or food and wine specialties in markets, festivals, and village festivals. This is the conclusion of Coldiretti's analysis. Food is thus the most significant item in the summer vacation budget in Italy, so much so that it has become the primary motivator for many tourists to travel. Food is thus confirmed as the real added value of a vacation in Italy, which is a world leader in food and wine tourism, with 5,450 specialties obtained according to traditional rules protracted over time for at least 25 years surveyed by the Regions, 325 PDO/PGI/TSG specialties recognized at EU level and 415 Doc/Docg wines, and leadership in organic farming with approximately 86 thousand organic farms.
