In recent years, the logistics industry has faced continuous challenges, from rising production costs and money to chronic shortages of workers. Against this backdrop, after reaching about 100 billion euros in 2021 (+16.8 percent) and 106 billion euros in 2022 (+6.4 percent), in 2023 the turnover of Contract Logistics in Italy will continue its growth, reaching 112 billion euros, at a more moderate pace than in past years (+5.5 percent). According to research by the Contract Logistics Observatory "Gino Marchet" of the Politecnico di Milano on the labor front, at least 60,000 workers are missing in Italy and about 75 percent of logistics service providers operate in undersized conditions. A situation made even more difficult by the low participation of women-only 20.4 percent of workers in the sector are women-but still better than in the rest of Europe: the United Kingdom suffers a shortage of 180,000 workers, Germany 170,000, Poland 160,000, for a total shortage that exceeds 1.1 million people on the Continent. The decline in the number of firms in the sector continues-82,000 in 2021, it was 84,500 in 2020-with smaller and less structured operators in particular exiting the market.
