"I'd like to join in the celebration of an important milestone for an Association of companies representing the Italian broadcasting system, to which both private entities and the public service concessionaire adhere. Radio and television have been extraordinary vehicles for the country's innovation and cultural promotion, and they are a window through which each of us can look out to participate in the life of our community and the global one, even from new mobile devices that have radically changed how we use them." This is the first line of a message sent by President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella on the tenth anniversary of the foundation of Confindustria Radio Televisioni. "In today's season, characterized by extraordinary changes brought about by technological innovations, radio and television operators continue to offer a representation of reality with professionalism and accuracy," the Head of State said. "Each sector protagonist's contribution helps ensure the achievement of the variety of voices and ideas that confirms freedom of expression in all its manifestations. This is a huge duty as well as a huge task. Broadcasting is one of the engines of the country's creative and cultural industries, serving critical duties in maintaining the Republic's democratic existence. The search for long-term business models that can withstand the impact of major digital transformations in the economy and society, as determined by large global players - which includes the European Union working to define appropriate regulatory frameworks - is a litmus test for all those involved. An appointment that also calls into question the institutions devoted to guaranteeing the full execution of the ideals enshrined in various sections of our Constitution, most notably articles 2, 21, and 41".
