The population incarcerated in the country's jails is not slowing down; on the contrary, it is continually expanding at an average of more than 300 inmates each month, with 60,116 presences as of 30 November last, resulting in an overcrowded index of +117%. The figures come from the Penitentiary Police Union, UILPA. To be considered, however, the multiple uninhabitable cells, as well as the groupings by circuits, territoriality and gender that greatly increase the surplus of inmates in many realities, with peaks that exceed plus 200%, such as at the Brescia Canton Mombello Prison, or touch it such as, at the penitentiary institutes of Foggia, Como, Grosseto, Taranto, Busto Arsizio and Brescia Verziano, just to name a few.
