Paola Deffendi, Giulio Regeni's mother, thus accepted the GUP of Rome's request for indictment of the four 007 accused of the kidnapping and murder of the researcher in Cairo. The trial's first hearing has been scheduled for February 20 before the capital's Court of Assizes, and the Presidency of the Council of Ministers has been admitted as a civil party. In his request for an indictment, deputy prosecutor Sergio Colaiocco emphasized that the defendants' absence "will not render the trial a simulacrum."
