Since 1990 at the end of each year, Il Sole 24 Ore has published its ranking of Italian provinces on the basis of quality of life, which it fine-tunes by taking into consideration numerous factors, including work, environment, health, safety and culture. According to this year's ranking, the best-living province in Italy in 2023 is Udine, followed by those of Bologna and Trento. Rome ranks 35th out of 107 and Milan eighth, while most of the areas with the lowest quality of life are in the South. To make its annual ranking, Il Sole 24 Ore uses 90 indicators, divided into six major categories: "wealth and consumption", "business and labor”, "environment and services", "demographics, health and society", "justice and security", and "culture and leisure”. The province of Udine gained 11 positions compared to the 2022 ranking, in which the most livable was Bologna, followed by Bolzano and Florence. Based on the data collected, the Sun awarded Udine first place for the quality of life of women, fourth for the justice and safety category, and eighth for the quality of life of girls and children. Among other things, the high number of gyms, swimming pools and wellness centers in relation to the province's population (about 516,000 inhabitants), but also the low frequency of fires, computer crimes and car thefts, and a low number of families with Isee less than 7,000 euros and bankrupt businesses influenced the first positions.
