16.6 billion euros of exports in 2022 and 6.7 billion euros already in the first six months of 2023 bring Sicily to the podium of exports in the South of Italy. Since 2015, Sicilian exports have traveled at an average of 9 billion euros a year, not only thanks to energy products but also to the dynamism of sectors such as electronic appliances, agribusiness and chemicals. These are numbers that express the dynamism and high exhortative potential of the Sicilian economic fabric, which has shown good resilience even in the years of the pandemic and is now expressing great opportunities for growth, also thanks to the investments in innovation and sustainability undertaken by Made in Sicily companies that act as export boosters: SACE has already accompanied 1,300 Sicilian companies in this direction for 1.2 billion euros in the last year alone. Among the most important markets are France, Germany and the United States but also destinations such as Hong Kong and Singapore. Leading the Sicilian export with 66.6 percent is the sale of refined petroleum products, followed by chemical products (6.9 percent), food and beverages (6.1 percent) and electronic equipment (5.7 percent) the latter being the only sector that in the first half of this year recorded an increase in exports compared to the same period last year (+7.7 percent).
