As stated on the website of the Department of Internal and Territorial Affairs of the Ministry of the Interior, the first online voting simulation for electoral consultations will be carried out on December 13 and 14. The initiative, which is unrelated to any real electoral event, will involve Italians living abroad in some consular constituencies in countries of Europe. The simulation has been financed thanks to a special fund established by the "Budget Law 2020," and will take place between 8 a.m. Wednesday, December 13, and 8 p.m. Thursday, December 14, 2023 (GMT+1), according to the modalities governed by specific guidelines approved by a decree of the Minister of the Interior, adopted in consultation with the Ministry for Technological Innovation and Digital Transition on July 7, 2021. Specifically, the various phases of electronic voting - voter authentication, voting and collection of the results of the ballot - will be managed by a special web platform, called "e-Vote Portal", created by the Viminale's Department of Internal and Territorial Affairs in collaboration with all other administrations involved. The platform can be accessed by those registered in the Registry of Italians Resident Abroad (AIRE) and Italian citizens temporarily present (for work, study or medical treatment) in the consular districts involved in the simulation, who are in possession of a digital identity.
