Gino Cecchettin, the father of Giulia, the university student from Vigonovo, Venice, who was tragically killed last November 11 by her ex-boyfriend Filippo Turetta, who is currently detained in Verona, has been defending himself for weeks against personal attacks from hostile individuals online, defamations and accusations based on conspiracy theories. The software engineer has had to stop his social media presence. Even in the days following the tragedy, hateful messages were left underneath the grief-laden posts. Only six days ago, on his LinkedIn profile, he had announced a break from his professional activity, sharing his deep grief over the recent loss of Giulia. After the many reports he received of hate messages on the web, the attorney representing and defending Gino Cecchettin announced his intention to file complaints. Giulia's sister Elena, assisted by another lawyer, has also been the target of attacks and is preparing to take legal action.
