Strong presence in foreign markets, ability to increase revenues and widen margins by growing both organically and through mergers and acquisitions, key shareholders with a family or entrepreneurial matrix. These are the main connotations that form the outline of the "Italian Champions”, the 40 companies listed on Piazza Affari with capitalization of more than 1 billion euros that have been able to systematically beat the rest of the market over the past decade. They were selected by Equita center, with a special report. From Sesa, with a return of even 987 percent over the decade 2013-2023 to Saras (+126 percent), the basket is now more balanced between large companies (21 stocks are included in the Ftse Mib) and small and mid caps (19 instead in the Ftse Mid) and has a relatively higher concentration of those belonging to the industrial, utilities, consumer and technology sector. Compared to 2018, the average capitalization of the top ten by performance even tripled, from €4 billion to €12 billion, essentially due to the arrival of two big guns such as Stellantis and StMicroelectronics. In addition to the confirmations of Recordati and Amplifon - both linked to the healthcare sector - and Reply, the Top 10 also saw the entry of an industrialist such as Interpump, a renewable energy player such as Erg, the fintech Mutuionline, and the financial operator Tip, which crossed the billion capitalization barrier. Overall, the Italian Champions recorded an average annualized growth of 7 percent in revenues and as much as 24 percent in profits between 2013 and 2023, confirming a strong vocation for exports, which on average account for more than 60 percent of revenues.
