Napoli has lost one of its most distinguished historical emblems. Antonio Juliano died at the age of 80. The former captain and manager of the Azzurri was hospitalized due to severe illness. Juliano would have been 81 years old on December 26th. From 1961 to 1978, Juliano donned the Napoli shirt for seventeen seasons, twelve of which he wore the captain's armband. He won two Italian Cups (1961-62 and 1975-76), an Alpine Cup (1966), and an Italian-English League Cup (1976) as a footballer. He subsequently played one last year with Bologna. He was also a member of the national team, which won the European Championships in 1968 and came one step short of winning the World Championships two years later, stopping in the final. Juliano is also recognized for his achievements as a manager after retiring in Naples. During that time, he was instrumental in bringing the club two of its best signings: Ruud Krol, who arrived in Italy in 1980, and, above all, Diego Armando Maradona, who arrived four years later.
