Simmenthal, named after a Swiss valley, is a well-known brand with an annual revenue of over $80 million. The corned beef experiment began in 1881, but the corporation was founded in 1923. Simmenthal, an all-Italian brand, is now for sale. Food conglomerates and private equity funds might be interested. The venture, overseen by the investment bank Vitale, would indeed be considered by the Cremonini group and the Brazilian multinational JBS, a prominent beef processing corporation, despite potential antitrust concerns. Bids are anticipated to be submitted in the following weeks. Private equity funds such as Lion Capital and Capvest would be among those conducting an investigation into the dossier. Bolton Group, owner of the Manzotin brand among other things, is studying the enhancement of Simmenthal, even though the multinational is attributed to the Milanese Nissim family. The latter took over the brand in 2012 from American Kraft Foods, which had controlled it since the 1990s. However, the famous canned meat was invented by Pietro Sada, a Milanese trader. In 1881, he experimented with novel preservation methods and came up with the notion of storing his beef in a box.
